Recertification Guidelines

The Texas State Florists' Association (TSFA) sponsors the Professional Certified Florist^® (PCF) and Texas Master Florist^® (TMF) certifications. These designations are maintained through a required recertification process. Recertification ensures certified professionals stay appraised of the evolving floral environment. Through recertification, PCF- and TMF-certified individuals demonstrate their continued competency. To recertify, individuals must earn 30 continuing education (CEUs) during each three-year certification cycle. The recertification cycle begins on the day the exam was passed or on the recertification date.

Recertification Timeline

Year One

Pass the Certification Exam — Earn your TMF or PCF certification. Each subsequent recertification cycle begins on your recertification date.

Year Two

Earn Continuing Education — Every three years, 30 CEUs are required for recertification.

80% of CEUs must be earned at TSFA events or classes.
20% of CEUs may be earned through other continuing education activities relevant to your professional position.

How to Calculate CEUs

Based on clock hours, 0.5 CEUs are awarded for each 30-minute interval of approved attendance or participation. Credit is not awarded for sessions lasting fewer than 30 minutes.

When calculating CEUs, note that participation time is rounded to the nearest 30-minute interval. For example, a 44-minute class will be awarded 0.5 CEUs, while a 50-minute class will receive 1.0 CEUs.

Recertification Status

Recertification fees are waived for TSFA members with continuous membership during the three-year certification cycle. Those whose membership lapsed must pay a $500 reactivation fee and the annual TSFA membership dues upon recertification. Reactivation must be approved by the TSFA Board of Directors.

Individuals who have achieved the TMF or PCF designation will hold one of the four certification statuses listed below.

Active

Active status is based on meeting the recertification requirements within the three-year recertification cycle.

Inactive

Inactive status results from failure to complete the recertification requirements within the three-year recertification cycle. TMF or PCF credentials may not be used by individuals with inactive status. Credential holders must meet the original recertification requirements and pay a late fee of $35 to regain active status.

Revoked

If recertification requirements are not met six months after the three-year recertification cycle concludes, credentials will be revoked. Revoked status can also be based on decisions by the TSFA Appeals Committee. Once revoked, individuals may not use the TMF or PCF designation unless reinstatement requirements have been met.

Retired

Retired status is based on a voluntary request of a fully retired individual who is no longer working in the floral industry.

Voluntarily Relinquished

This status is upon the request of an individual who no longer wishes to maintain their credential and voluntarily withdraws from the recertification process. The individual’s credential must be active and in good standing at the time of the request. Reactivation of a voluntarily relinquished credential requires a passing score on a new certification exam, if one full recertification cycle has passed while in Voluntary Relinquished status. Individuals may not use the TMF or PCF designation if the credential has been voluntarily relinquished.
